Understanding the Role of a Seer & Prophetic Intercessor in the Church
❓What is a Seer?
A Seer is a prophetic person who receives revelation primarily through visions, dreams, and spiritual insight. While all seers are prophetic, not all prophetic people operate as seers. The term “seer” is used in Scripture (1 Samuel 9:9) and refers to those who “see” what is happening in the spirit realm and communicate what God reveals.
🔍 Functions of a Seer:
-
Receives visions and dreams from God that reveal His plans, strategies, or warnings.
-
Discerner of spiritual activity—seeing both angelic and demonic forces.
-
Helps the Body of Christ stay aligned with God’s timing, direction, and heart.
-
Often carries a watchman anointing, sounding the alarm or confirming what the Spirit is saying.
📖 Biblical Examples:
-
Samuel – “Come, let us go to the seer…” (1 Samuel 9:9)
-
Elisha – Saw into the spiritual realm (2 Kings 6:17)
-
Daniel & John – Received apocalyptic visions with heavenly blueprints
❓What is a Prophetic Intercessor?
A Prophetic Intercessor is someone who not only prays, but prays under the direct leading of the Holy Spirit, often through revelation, burden, or spiritual impression. They "hear" and "see" what God is speaking and respond in deep, targeted intercession.
🔥 Functions of a Prophetic Intercessor:
-
Carries burdens in prayer for individuals, churches, cities, and nations.
-
Intercedes according to God’s will, not just personal emotion or knowledge.
-
Partners with Heaven to war in the Spirit, stand in the gap, and birth God's purposes through prayer.
-
May sense atmospheres and be called to break strongholds through prophetic decree.
🔗 How do these giftings work together?
Seers and prophetic intercessors often operate hand-in-hand. A Seer may receive a vision and then step into intercession for what was revealed. A Prophetic Intercessor may suddenly gain spiritual sight as they pray, seeing pictures, hearing words, or sensing divine direction. Together, they protect, prepare, and equip the Body of Christ.
🌍 Why are these roles important in the Church today?
We are living in spiritually urgent times. God is raising up voices who:
-
See and sense what Heaven is doing
-
Intercede for what is on God’s heart
-
Alert the Church to spiritual warfare and divine opportunity
-
Help others navigate their own encounters with God
These gifts are not for self-glorification—but for service, alignment, and intercession on behalf of others.
🙏 Can anyone walk in this type of gifting?
While not everyone is a Seer or Prophetic Intercessor, all believers are encouraged to pray, seek God, and listen to His voice. These giftings are often sharpened through:
-
Time in the secret place
-
Spiritual maturity
-
Obedience and humility
-
Mentorship and accountability
If you feel drawn to these areas, ask the Holy Spirit to train you and begin to steward what He shows you with integrity and love.
