Overfed but Undernourished: A Wake-Up Call | ©Bridget Marcus

"I feel a holy stirring in my spirit today." The word Lana Vawser shared today is something the Lord has been speaking to my spirit for quite some time. She spoke on guarding your gates (eyes, ears, heart, etc.). Honestly, I find myself repenting—not just for not listening, but for not obeying sooner. I believe that’s why I’ve been so drawn to Lea DiNonno’s videos lately on YouTube. The Lord is using them as a gentle but clear reminder: we were never meant to take in so much at once.

We were created by Him and for Him (Colossians 1:16), and He has given each of us a unique assignment and a people we’re called to. We were never meant to carry the whole weight of the world or every need we see. And yet, the enemy has devised a strategy to overwhelm us—pouring so much into our eyes, ears, and minds that there's no room left for what God is actually trying to place within us. "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." – Matthew 11:15

In this season, I’m realizing I’ve been "eating" too many prophetic words—good, encouraging words, yes, but too many. Just like physical overeating, spiritual overconsumption can lead to dullness and imbalance. It’s not that God doesn’t speak through these voices, but when we run to man more than the secret place, we’re eating spiritual fast food. No wonder our discernment gets clouded. This also goes for also listening to so many other preachers, people, reading books, and whatever else that may even seem good. "The time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine... they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires." – 2 Timothy 4:3 ; "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." – Matthew 4:4

And not just spiritually—but in the natural as well, constantly trying to keep up with everything happening in the world. Though we are called to have compassion for the lost, to stay alert, and carry the burden of intercession (1 Timothy 2:1-4, Matthew 9:36-38), we were never designed to carry the weight of every tragedy, headline, and crisis 24/7. It overloads our gates—our eyes and ears—and it begins to taint, distract, and drown out the voice of the Lord and what He’s personally trying to deposit into our spirits (Luke 11:34-36, Proverbs 4:23-27). “Take heed what you hear...” – Mark 4:24 ;“Set no wicked thing before my eyes...” – Psalm 101:3; “Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light.” – Luke 11:34

Society—and sadly, even parts of the church—are training this generation to be always on, always available, and always performing. We’ve traded intimacy for influence, and prayer for productivity. We don’t pause to pray before acting or speaking anymore. But there’s a divine order to God’s timing and ways. He is not in a rush like we are. "In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength." – Isaiah 30:15

Yes, we know time is short. Yes, we feel the urgency. But there’s a right way to walk it out—a narrow path, not a chaotic sprint. The enemy has distorted truth, and many of us have unknowingly taken on assignments, burdens, and even people that were never ours to carry. "Each one should test their own work... for each one should carry their own load." – Galatians 6:4-5; "Let each person remain in the situation they were in when God called them." – 1 Corinthians 7:20

And when we don’t conform to others’ expectations or take on what they think we should, we’re often judged or even shamed into roles that are not aligned with Heaven’s assignment for our lives. But God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33), and He is calling His people back to simplicity, focus, and purity of assignment.

Today, I feel like the Lord is trying to wake me up from slumber—not the kind that comes from laziness, but from overload. Spiritual numbness caused by too much noise and not enough stillness. I hear Him gently saying, “Come back to the quiet. Let Me set your pace again.” "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." – Ephesians 5:14; "Be still, and know that I am God." – Psalm 46:10

I don’t want to miss His heart by doing His work in a way He never asked me to. I want to walk in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:25), not in sync with culture, pressure, or performance.

So, Lord, forgive me for the ways I’ve over-consumed and under-consulted You. I return to the narrow path. The quiet lane. The sacred assignment. Not what looks right to man—but what’s ordained by Heaven.
