Overcoming the Need to Be “Needed” Prt.2 (Freedom from Performance & Permission to Rest)

If the last post stirred something in you, I want to lovingly go deeper

Sometimes we don’t say yes to rest because we’re afraid of disappointing people.

What if they get upset that I’m not available? What if everything falls apart without me?What if they think I’m being selfish or lazy?

But sweet friend... when you’re walking in performance mentality, your “yes” can become your prison.

The Lord never designed you to be the glue that holds everything together. That’s His job.

Signs You Might Be Caught in a Cycle of Over-Giving:

You feel guilty when you say “no”

You avoid rest because “people are counting on you”

You only feel valuable when you’re helping or producing

You resent others, but still don’t stop

You feel emotionally and spiritually dry, but keep pushing through

This isn’t love. It’s bondage.

Here’s the truth from the Father’s heart:“You are not an endless supply. You are My vessel, and I care deeply about your well-being. It is not selfish to rest. It’s stewardship. It’s trust. It’s worship.”

Jesus said “yes” to the cross, but He also said “no” to the crowd. He withdrew often. He rested. He was led by the Father—not the demands of people.

It's okay to say:

“I love you, but I can’t do that right now.”

“I need time to be poured into before I can pour out again.”

“My obedience is to God first, and He’s calling me to rest.”

Boundaries aren’t rejection. They’re protection. For you and those you love.

Let Rest Be Your Yes. When you stop performing, you create space for the Holy Spirit to move. When you rest, you’re declaring: “I trust You, Lord, more than I trust my own strength.”

Scriptures to Anchor Your Heart:

Galatians 1:10 – “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God?”Proverbs 29:25 – “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.”Mark 1:35 – “Very early in the morning… Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.”

Take a deep breath.

You are not held together by your performance. You are held together by perfect Love. And Love is saying: “Rest, daughter, rest son. I’ve got this.”
