Stop giving people your yes before you’ve consulted the Father first | Bridget Marcus

Stop giving people your yes before you’ve consulted the Father first. (Yes, this even includes me.)

We live in a time where busyness is celebrated and overloaded plates are worn like a badge of honor. But saying “yes” to every opportunity, every need, every request — without first consulting the Holy Spirit — will leave you empty, frustrated, and distracted from the very thing God is actually calling you to.

God doesn’t want your leftovers. He’s not looking for you to fit Him in after you’ve poured yourself out everywhere else. He desires your first yes — the one that is surrendered, intentional, and obedient to His will, not everyone else’s demands.

The Father says, “Before you move, ask Me. Before you commit, consult Me. Before you say yes, seek My heart.” Because not every good thing is a God thing — and not every open door is your assignment.

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” — Proverbs 3:6

Being His hands and feet means moving with Him, not just for Him. When we run ahead or give out of obligation instead of obedience, we risk building what He never asked for — and burning out in the process.

You don’t have to prove your worth by how much you do. You are already loved, chosen, and called. Let your yes be rooted in intimacy, not insecurity.

Prayer:

Father, Forgive me for every yes I’ve given without seeking You first. Forgive me for moving ahead of You, trying to meet every need or please every person without pausing to ask what You desire.

Teach me to sit with You before I commit to anything. Help me to discern between what is good and what is God-ordained. I don’t want to give You my leftovers — I want to give You my first and best.

Holy Spirit, lead me in all things. Teach me to guard my yes so that it carries weight in the Spirit, not just in the natural. Let everything I do be birthed from a place of obedience and love, not striving or pressure.

I surrender my time, my energy, and my gifts back to You. Be glorified in my yes — the one that comes after seeking Your face.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
